When I really need to complete some important work or if I need to study at the last minute, I normally opt to stay at home. Even when I was in college, I preferred my home over the campus library. Studying at the library was stressful. Everyone was fraught with anxiety during midterms or finals week. I couldn't separate myself from the palpable stress emanating from other students. I often felt insecure about myself for my relative ignorance compared to the other brilliant students in the library, even though I studied hard at the time. I couldn't keep studying at my own pace. That's why I rarely set foot inside the campus library.
I found myself performing better at home. Studying or working at home means that I have everything needed at arm's length, which improves productivity. I don't have to waste time and energy traveling to or enduring discomfort at an unfamiliar place. However, I also often lose concentration at home when I have to do some bothersome paperwork that I don't want to do. I get more and more distracted while avoiding what I don't want to start and getting myself involved in other interesting things.
In that case, a café offers an optimal place for working hard. I can't procrastinate at the café. There's nothing there other than what I brought. I have no choice but to focus. The moderate level of ambient noise keeps me alert, and I don't want to be caught sleeping in the open space. Coffee and dessert also help me to stay fueled up. I can get natural light on my way to the café or at a window seat in the café, which improves my mood. All of these perks help me to get my work done efficiently.
